Tonight, after a brutal primary that in-state and national reporters called “nasty,” “personal” and messy, car salesman and MAGA extremist Bernie Moreno has won the race to be the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate. He will go up against Sen. Sherrod Brown in November in a race that will be yet another reflection on Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell’s inability to recruit Republican candidates who people actually want to vote for.
“Bernie Moreno is a transparent Donald Trump stooge who is using every trick in his car salesman book to try and convince the people of Ohio he’s a good guy. Unfortunately, it isn’t working,” said Alexandra De Luca, vice president of communications for American Bridge 21st Century. “His victory tonight proves that the Republican Party has been poisoned by anti-health care, anti-democracy extremists who would rather bend the knee to Trump than fight for Ohio’s future. Moreno doesn’t stand a chance against a champion for working people like Sen. Sherrod Brown.”

Moreno is an anti-abortion extremist who has opposed exceptions for rape and incest and claimed that life began at conception.

Moreno opposes the Affordable Care Act, which provides affordable health care to hundreds of thousands of Ohioans.

Moreno originally claimed that there was “no scenario” in which he would support Trump, and then transparently pivoted to becoming his biggest supporter and buying Trump’s endorsement.

Moreno echoed Trump’s election lies and cut a campaign ad about them — all to curry favor with the boss.

Moreno opposed common sense gun violence prevention measures, claiming that gun restriction legislation was something that “lazy politicians” did and attended a NRA banquet that was auctioning the same kind of guns used in mass shootings.

Moreno stole his employees’ wages and shredded evidence to try and get out of paying them.
