DeSantis Presidency Would Threaten the Global Economy

Jun 01, 2023

Last night, the U.S. House overwhelmingly passed bipartisan legislation to extend the debt ceiling, despite the objection of 2024 Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. DeSantis and his Never Back Down PAC have relentlessly attacked Republican negotiators on the campaign trail over the debt deal.

While serving in Congress, DeSantis was a vocal opponent of suspending the debt ceiling. On numerous occasions he voted against shutdown-ending compromises and also effectively voted for legislation that risked bringing the U.S. to the brink of default.

“Rather than compromise, a President DeSantis would force through his far-right agenda, which could set off a global financial crisis and cripple the American economy,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Aidan Johnson. “DeSantis’ opposition to this bipartisan legislation is just the latest example that he is not ready for primetime, let alone the presidency.”
