Trump’s Budget Sells Out the American People, And the GOP Senate Is Silent

Mar 16, 2017

While the Trump administration unveiled its extreme budget proposal this morning, Senate Republicans have yet to weigh in on his disastrous proposal that would hurt millions of Americans.

From abandoning our country’s crumbling infrastructure, to cutting funds to fight disease and protect public health, to gutting support for low-income communities, Trump’s budget proposal would be a nightmare for the American people. It’s time for GOP Senators — the overwhelming majority of whom have yet to cast a vote against Donald Trump — to reject this budget.

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement in response to the GOP Senate’s silence on Donald Trump’s budget:

“Senate Republicans are silent on Donald Trump’s budget, but they’re not going to be able to run out the clock. From ditching his commitment to infrastructure investment to weakening America’s influence around the globe, to forcing taxpayers to foot the $21 billion bill for his border wall, Trump’s budget is a disaster, and every member of the Republican Senate should speak out in opposition to this reckless proposal on behalf of their constituents. If Republicans can’t stand up now, they shouldn’t be surprised when voters hold them accountable at the ballot box.”
