New analysis shows people who buy health insurance on government exchanges will see a median increase in health insurance costs of 18%. The cost of employer-based health insurance plans for workers is expected to increase by 6.5% next year, the largest rise in 15 years.
UnitedHealth Group Inc., the leading health insurer in the United States, serving over 150 million people, cited Trump’s tariff tax and the “uncertainty” caused by his chaotic economic policies as reasons for the need to raise health insurance costs.
These hikes are not mysterious—they’re the direct fallout of tariffs stoked by previous trade wars and the costly promise to bring pharmaceutical manufacturing back to U.S. soil. Insurance giants like UnitedHealth, citing “tariff uncertainty,” have already jacked up risk margins in Ohio by 0.5% and raised rates in Maryland and Oregon by 2.4% and 2.7%, respectively.
The analysis is a cold, hard indicator of how ordinary Americans are being forced to foot the bill for economic chaos, all while the Trump administration and Republicans shrug at the financial pressures facing millions of American households.
Families across the country are feeling the pinch as prices rise across the board, from groceries to energy to everyday essentials, thanks to Trump’s tariff tax and his administration’s reckless economic policies. These aren’t just numbers on a page; they’re real-world consequences hitting Americans where it hurts most. And this is just the beginning. With Republicans ending Affordable Care Act subsidies, which will cost the average person 75% more next year, and refusing to back down from taxing Americans through tariffs, the financial pressure on households is only set to worsen.
“Trump promised prosperity, but instead, he’s letting huge, wealthy corporations nickel and dime Americans at every turn. They’re getting taxed at the grocery store, the car dealership, the home appliance section, the toy store, and more. He’s even going out of his way to milk Americans dry by ending rules compelling corporate airlines to reimburse Americans for delayed or canceled flights,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Congressional Republicans handed over the American economy to Trump’s chaos and let him hike prices across the board on the things families need to get by. Families are paying more for everything while Trump and his allies play politics, and the GOP refuses to lift a finger to stop it.”
