The Trump administration will soon begin a policy that could financially devastate seniors and disabled Americans by clawing back as much as 50% of Social Security payments already issued to them.
Some people could see the hard-earned benefits they rely on snatched away by the Trump administration as soon as this month, delivering an unexpected cut just a week out from the common first-of-the-month due date for most housing, utility bills, insurance premiums, and loan payments.
Experts warn the policy could be “devastating” for beneficiaries who rely on their benefits to pay rent or mortgages, and could result in increased homelessness.
Trump’s cruel policy kicks in as prices are spiking across the board, thanks to his administration’s tariff tax. Grocery prices are climbing, with beef and chicken soaring to record highs. The country’s largest retailer, Walmart, where millions of Americans turn to buy the basics, is raising prices on some items as much as 51%. Even tomato prices are expected to climb by 10% thanks to Trump’s unnecessary provocation against Mexican producers.
“Trump promised to protect Social Security, but instead, he’s gutting Social Security checks just as prices spike across the board. While prices soar and necessities become more expensive, he’s reaching into Americans’ pockets and clawing back the checks they count on to survive,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Billionaires are raking in handouts while grandma’s left choosing between groceries and her next bill. Trump is not protecting seniors, he’s punishing them, and it proves just how out of touch he is with the people he claims to fight for.”
