After promising not to touch Medicare and Medicaid, Donald Trump’s budget takes a hatchet to the social safety net, proposing a massive $670 million cut to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. The budget proposal also slashes funding for education, public health, and essential safety net programs. At the same time, Trump’s budget increases spending for embattled Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the Pentagon by 13%.
“Budgets reflect priorities. The Trump administration’s proposal shows they don’t care to prioritize the needs of working families or the most vulnerable Americans. It’s a reckless abandonment of the American working class in favor of the GOP’s extreme political agenda,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Trump’s proposal comes on top of a congressional Republican agenda to cut $880 billion from Medicaid, which would force millions of Americans to pay more for worse health care services. Voters were promised prosperity from Republicans and Donald Trump, but so far, they’ve only delivered pain for them and their families.”
