Trump Backs “Big, Beautiful” $880 Billion Cut to Medicaid While Taking Bribe from Qatar

May 12, 2025

Over the weekend, Donald Trump’s Republican Party unveiled $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid spending to help fund a $4.5 trillion tax cut for the richest Americans.

Republicans are proposing new, punitive rules on some Medicaid recipients up to 64 years old and imposing more costs on beneficiaries. Experts predict the changes will add more bureaucratic bloat to the Medicaid program and lead to coverage losses.

Doctors warn that the Republican proposal to starve states of Medicaid funding will result in millions losing their coverage. Trump wants to make state governments the patsy as the Republican Party eliminates health care coverage and sends the cost of care skyrocketing. If Trump gets his way, he’ll force states to consider kicking residents off their health care coverage or eliminating state funding for critical programs like education or public safety.

At least 8.6 million people would lose health insurance by 2034 as a result of the bill, which also cuts Affordable Care Act coverage, according to analysis from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.

“It’s sad that as president, Donald Trump is prioritizing taking a $400 million bribe from a foreign nation over fulfilling his campaign promises to lower costs for American families. Since taking office, he’s introduced economic chaos and taxed the hell out of everyday people while lining his own pockets and profiting off of the presidency through grifts that sell direct access to his administration and the White House,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Trump only cares about enriching himself and his rich friends; he doesn’t care if it comes on the backs of middle-class families and the most vulnerable Americans.”
