The Trump administration spent the weekend fighting harder to protect predators than it did all year to protect health care, food assistance, and other resources critical to the success and prosperity of working-class Americans.
In six months, Trump:
- Easily strong-armed weak congressional Republicans to confirm unqualified conspiracy theorists to major leadership roles in public health, public safety, and health care.
- Directed mass layoffs of scientists and health researchers, while pausing millions in critical funding for public health and safety programs.
- Aggressively pushed members of his party to rubber-stamp a bill that cuts over a trillion dollars in funding for food assistance and health care coverage for the most vulnerable Americans.
His attacks on resources for the working class have been relentless, never once letting up on his plan to cut resources from American households and fork it over to his billionaire friends.
Trump promised to be a fighter for working people, but so far, he’s fought harder to protect powerful abusers than regular people who believed his lies:
- Trump urged Republicans to protect alleged sexual predator Matt Gaetz before he withdrew his nomination to be Trump’s Attorney General.
- Republicans are still protecting Trump’s Secretary of Defense, and alleged sexual predator, Pete Hegseth.
“They’re not even pretending anymore. The GOP will go to war to defend an alleged predator, but they won’t lift a finger to help a hard-working mom afford groceries or get her kid to a doctor,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “They’ve sold out veterans, doctors, workers, families, and more while fighting like hell to protect the powerful and the abusive. Their priorities couldn’t be any clearer.”
