More Ron Johnson Disdain For Wisconsin Parents

Mar 17, 2022

Few things are more reliably consistent than U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson’s apparent eagerness to remind Wisconsinites that he’s a wildly out-of-touch multimillionaire who’s doubled his wealth since joining Congress and before that spent 30 years getting rich thanks to financial support from his billionaire father-in-law.

After a week in which he resurfaced the GOP campaign to gut health care coverage protections and drive up costs, Johnson this week pivoted back to telling Wisconsin parents he refuses to help them by working to lower child care costs.

During a Tuesday tele-town hall, Johnson suggested an unempathetic, ill-conceived, and also illegal (under Wisconsin law) proposal to address the child care crisis, “call[ing] for mothers receiving public assistance to help other mothers by staffing the child care centers taking care of their children.”

It’s the second time this year that Johnson has made news for failing to come up with a real solution to lower child care costs, while opposing Democratic proposals to cap costs for parents.

In January, Johnson made statewide and national headlines, driving more than a week of news coverage, on his unapologetic opposition to lowering child care costs for Wisconsin families.
