In an interview with Miami’s WSVN yesterday, Governor Rick Scott said he “gets lots of voicemails” when asked about the growing controversy over the heat-related deaths of 11 senior citizens living in a Florida nursing home. In the wake of hurricane Irma, the nursing home lost power and went without air conditioning for several days. Nursing home officials called Scott’s private cell phone four times for help during that time, but received no assistance.
“As usual, even on the issues most important to Floridians, Rick Scott refuses to take personal responsibility for anything,” said American Bridge Spokesperson Joshua Karp.”Instead of admitting his response to the growing nursing home tragedy could have been better, he’s passing the buck onto his own employees.”

Reporter: How common is it that you delete these voicemails?
Scott: I’m like everyone else, you get lots of voicemails and you go through the process. We have a process. If you send me… if you give me a voicemail, we… you know… somebody will… you know…look at the voicemail, send it to the right agency, somebody calls them back. That’s exactly what we did in this case.
