Pat Toomey Keeps Up The Supreme Court Vacancy Obstructionism

Apr 13, 2016

Senator Pat Toomey put on a show of talking to Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland yesterday, but his willingness to sit for a “long meeting” to keep up appearances then immediately revert back to his unprecedented obstructionism is an absolute joke.

It is not possible to come to a conclusion that would satisfy everybody about this so I have made the best judgement that I can,” Toomey said insincerely after the meeting — doubling down on his decision to not satisfy both his constitutional obligations and the wishes of constituents who just want him to do his job.

Senator Toomey’s continued refusal to give Garland fair consideration, including hearings and a vote, is ongoing proof that he embodies the very worst partisan and obstructionist elements of the Senate’s Republican conference. Toomey should listen to his Republican Senate colleague Susan Collins and join her in calling for hearings and a vote for Garland.

Pennsylvania voters want and deserve better than Pat Toomey’s hour-long “I’m just here so I won’t get fined” posturing.
