Today, American Bridge 21st Century is releasing a series of ads highlighting Republicans’ complicity in supporting Donald Trump accepting a luxury jet from Qatar, his family opening a private club with a half-million dollar entry fee, and building a White House ballroom for the ultra-rich – all while gutting the critical programs and services vulnerable Americans need the most.
Trump and Congressional Republicans took power on a promise to help working families get ahead; instead, they’ve spent months enriching themselves at the expense of the working class households they promised to help.
As the largest opposition research firm in the Democratic Party, American Bridge 21st Century is leading the way to hold Republicans accountable and make sure voters know who to blame for higher health care costs, the deterioration of services for seniors and veterans, and lost opportunities for the next generation of Americans.
“Working families didn’t vote for Trump to line his pockets with luxury perks. They voted for relief on prices, better jobs, and a fair shot for their kids. Instead, he and Republicans are governing like a country club for the wealthy,” said American Bridge 21st Century President Pat Dennis. “While Trump plans to invite his billionaire friends to pop champagne in his White House ballroom, working families are clipping coupons in the checkout line. The GOP isn’t just out of touch; they’re out to make themselves richer, and we’re going to make sure the voters know it.”
Additionally, American Bridge is highlighting that several Congressional Republicans who support Trump’s betrayal of the middle class have come under scrutiny for enriching themselves and their friends:
- Rep. Rob Bresnahan (PA-08)
- Currently facing scrutiny for promising to ban stock trading by Members of Congress, and breaking that promise to become one of the most active stock traders in Congress.
- Secretly purchased a luxury personal helicopter that retails for up to $1.5 million.
- A multimillionaire himself, he accepted campaign contributions from 20 billionaires with a collective net worth of nearly $200 billion.
- Rep. Ken Calvert (CA-41)
- Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07)
- Under scrutiny for promising to put financial assets in a blind trust, but broke that promise and is still trading stocks while serving in Congress.
- Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01)
- Found guilty of 11 House ethics violations in 2020, including misuse of official funds, improper use of staff, and failure to follow ethics rules. The House Ethics Committee formally reprimanded him and fined him $50,000.
- Then the FEC fined his campaign $125,000 for repeated campaign finance violations.
