In Unhinged Anti-Science Rant, Garrett Soldano Admits He’s Unvaccinated

Feb 22, 2022

Republican Michigan gubernatorial candidate and conspiracy theorist Garrett Soldano once again made headlines, this time after admitting on the record that he is unvaccinated — despite Donald Trump’s urging to his supporters — and that COVID-19 is no worse than a common cold. He also claimed that if children get COVID-19, they’ll be “fine,” despite countless evidence of the contrary.

Despite no training as a medical doctor, Soldano has spent months claiming that his qualifications as a chiropractor give him authority on the public health response to the global pandemic. He has also hawked snail oil COVID-19 “cures.”

Nearly 34,000 Michiganders have died from COVID-19 since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago.

  • At an event earlier this month, Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Garrett Soldano revealed he’s unvaccinated against COVID-19 and strongly implied that beating the virus is a matter of personal responsibility.
  • Soldano, a chiropractor, said he isn’t vaccinated since his natural antibody count appears to be increasing after a previous infection last year. When asked what others should do, he said his “Get Out of Jail Free card” is telling people it’s a matter of conscience.
  • He also doubted the effectiveness of masks and downplayed the seriousness of the virus, saying “COVID’s a cold.” He then advocated against children getting vaccinated because of the lower COVID-19 death rate for children. As of Feb. 16, 822 American children died as a result of COVID-19, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Protection.
  • “You let the kids get this naturally, it’d be fine,” Soldano said.
