American Bridge 21st Century President Pat Dennis penned a powerful op-ed in the Washington Post urging Democrats to seize the moment and hold Donald Trump accountable for his refusal to release the Jeffrey Epstein files — a move that even many of Trump’s own supporters are questioning.
Dennis outlines how Trump, who once styled himself as an outsider committed to “draining the swamp,” is now actively protecting the powerful.
“So why is Trump choosing to throw that trust away to keep information about Jeffrey Epstein secret? That’s the question now eating away at even some of his most loyal supporters — and Democrats should not be afraid to ask it alongside them,” Dennis writes.
Polling cited in the piece shows that the Epstein cover-up is not a fringe concern:
- 59% of Trump voters believe the government is hiding Epstein evidence.
- 40% of Republicans are dissatisfied with the lack of transparency.
Dennis calls on Democrats to lead with moral clarity, tie this scandal to Trump’s broader pattern of protecting elites, and remind voters what real accountability looks like.
“We need to say, loudly: ‘You gave him a shot as an outsider, but he cut your community’s health care, took his eye off the ball on prices and focused on tax cuts for billionaires — while he tried to shut up everyone, including his own supporters, who wanted to talk about elite billionaire sexual predators.”
