Yesterday, American Bridge 21st Century Co-Chair Cecile Richards joined Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House to talk about the newly passed abortion ban in South Carolina and the GOP’s assault on reproductive rights nationwide.
- “I mean, Nicolle, this is never about life, the same states that are banning abortion, as you know, don’t take care of the kids that are actually born into those states. This is about power and control over women.”
- “I mean, the incredible thing to me is that the Republicans want to continue to focus on this. This is a 10-year-old assault victim who is pregnant, a young girl who had to leave her state of Ohio to get access to abortion, which, of course, now in Indiana, you couldn’t get. The attorney general who is prosecuting Dr. Bernard, calls her an ‘abortion activist masquerading as a doctor.’ He said she is ‘pursuing an agenda’ as opposed to understanding that she showed compassion to this 10-year-old girl who needed her help. This is all about right-wing Republican politics. I can’t agree with you more that the stories are going to continue to grow.”
- “I mean, to put it mildly, it’s incredible that [Texas AG Ken Paxton is] still in office. And it’s so horrifying because, of course, he’s one of the biggest perpetrators of the assault on women. And so, it’s just incredible that women in the state have to live under Ken Paxton and the folks that are in charge.”
