GOP Senators on Shutdown Impact: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jan 17, 2019

As the shutdown stretches into its fourth week, GOP Senators are barely trying to conceal the fact that the hundreds of stories of furloughed workers struggling to make ends meet — selling their personal items, facing eviction, and dipping into their kids’ college funds — just aren’t enough to convince them to act to reopen the government.

Here are a few callous excuses from Senate Republicans desperate to avoid confronting the harmful impacts of their shutdown:

Martha McSally (AZ): *crickets*

KPHO

David Perdue (GA): “Leverage”

CNBC

Joni Ernst (IA): “Yes I am taking a paycheck”

WOI-DM

Shelley Moore Capito (WV): “I don’t know that we have reached [the breaking point]”

Fox News

Bill Cassidy (LA): “Can’t avoid [shutdown impact]”
