Politico broke news that Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) is completely fine with cutting up to $500 billion from Medicaid, a move that could jeopardize health coverage for approximately 78,600 of his constituents in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.
Bacon had downplayed concerns about Medicaid cuts, but he admitted recently in an interview that Republicans’ budget, which would slash taxes for billionaires, would affect the program: “I think you’re right. It would affect Medicaid.”
“Don Bacon’s endorsement of half a trillion dollars in Medicaid cuts is a direct attack on the health and well-being of thousands of his own constituents,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado. “This is a blatant betrayal of Nebraska seniors, children, and working families who rely on Medicaid for their health care.”
Before voting to slash Medicaid last month, Bacon made false promises and claimed to oppose Medicaid cuts. Bacon previously voted for a Republican package that could have taken Medicaid coverage away from nearly two million Americans.
