American Bridge Statement on Eric Hovde U.S. Senate Campaign Announcement

Feb 20, 2024

Today, failed 2012 U.S. Senate candidate, one of Orange County, California’s 500 most influential people, and multi-millionaire Eric Hovde announced he’s running for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin. Given Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s strength in her seat, over the last few months, top-tier candidate after top-tier candidate has turned down running for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin, making the NRSC increasingly desperate and looking for anyone who could simply try to buy the seat themselves.

“After months of trying to find a sacrificial lamb – I mean candidate – for the U.S. Senate in Wisconsin, the NRSC finally got their guy with Eric Hovde. He’s rich, he’s out-of-touch with Wisconsinites, and he doesn’t even live here,” said American Bridge spokesperson and Wisconsinite Sarah Abel. “We congratulate the NRSC on finally finding a candidate and send our condolences to Eric Hovde who will light millions of dollars on fire only to end up being sent back to his Laguna Beach home.”

While Hovde might have the financial means, he doesn’t have the record to win in Wisconsin – let’s take a look at where he stands on the issues:

  • On Social Security and Medicare: Eric Hovde said we “absolutely” must trim Social Security and Medicare benefits.

  • On Abortion: Eric Hovde has said that is “100% pro-life” and called for overturning Roe v. Wade.

  • On the Affordable Care Act: Eric Hovde said that he would try to “defund every aspect” of the ACA including protections for pre-existing conditions.
