In light of Donald Trump’s promise to launch a “major investigation” into alleged voter fraud in the last election, American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah released the following statement:
“Of course Donald Trump would rather investigate baseless conspiracy theories about Americans exercising their right to vote, than the confirmed role his Russian handler Vladimir Putin had in hacking our election. But sadly, Trump’s ego-driven, evidence-free claim that widespread voter fraud cost him the popular vote is just the signal Republicans across the country need to push for more stringent voter ID laws that make it harder for people to vote. Despite Trump’s wishes, our country is still a democracy, we should be doing everything we can to make it easier for people’s voices to be heard.
“Say it with me now: Donald Trump lost the popular vote. He did not lose it because millions of people illegally cast votes, he lost it because millions more Americans wanted someone else to be president.”
