American Bridge Calls On FBI To Investigate Rex Tillerson

Jan 12, 2017

American Bridge president Jessica Mackler sent a letter to FBI Director James Comey calling on him to investigate Rex Tillerson, Donald Trump’s nominee to be Secretary of State, for potentially committing perjury in testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Tillerson testified: “I have never lobbied against sanctions, personally,” and “To my knowledge, Exxon never lobbied directly against sanctions, not to my knowledge.” ExxonMobil submitted Lobbying Reports multiple times during Tillerson’s tenure as CEO that report they were lobbying Congress on U.S. sanctions against Iran, Russia, and Libya.

“I respectfully request that the Federal Bureau of Investigation open an investigation into Mr. Tillerson’s testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations today to determine whether Mr. Tillerson lied under oath to Congress about his or ExxonMobil lobbying the federal government over U.S. sanctions against foreign countries,” Mackler wrote to Comey.
