New data shows U.S. housing starts have collapsed to their lowest levels since May. In the South, America’s biggest homebuilding hub, housing starts dropped 21%, reaching a nearly year-long low. The data is a stark reminder that Donald Trump’s broken promises and reckless policies are strangling the housing market.
Trump once boasted he would cut the cost of a new home in half. Instead, skyrocketing tariffs have eaten into family budgets, while his anti-immigrant labor policies have driven workers out of construction sites. Builders can’t break ground, families can’t afford homes, and the American Dream is slipping further away.
“Donald Trump promised affordable homes but delivered economic chaos. His policies are driving up prices and pushing homeownership further out of reach for millions of Americans,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Families are paying more for everything because of his tariffs, and builders can’t find workers because of his reckless overreach on immigration. Unless you’re one of his billionaire friends, Trump is making it impossible for you to get ahead.”
