According to new analysis from Yale Budget Lab, Trump’s tariff taxes will increase the number of Americans living in poverty by between 650,000 and 875,000.
Leading economists and analysts are sounding the alarm on the Trump economy. Experts warn that the United States is inching closer to stagflation and that Trump’s own policies are to blame.
“More than 650,000 Americans will get pushed into poverty because of Trump’s reckless policies. Every day his trade war drags on and prices soar, working families are crushed while he lines the pockets of the wealthy,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “He promised to help families, but he’s making life harder for them instead, and voters are starting to see the betrayal for what it is.”
Across industries and household budgets, Americans are facing the direct consequences of Trump’s failed economic agenda:
- Prices on everyday items are soaring.
- Trump’s tariffs have unleashed a wave of price hikes since April, and they’re squeezing middle-class families already living paycheck to paycheck.
- Coffee: Prices jumped 9.8% from April to August, including a 3.6% spike in August alone.
- Bananas: Normally, a stable price point that saw a sharp 4.9% increase between April and August.
- Televisions: Prices edged up 2.5% in August and are up 3.1% since April.
- Toys: Rose 2.5% from April to August, marking the steepest four-month gain since 2021.
- Trump’s tariffs have unleashed a wave of price hikes since April, and they’re squeezing middle-class families already living paycheck to paycheck.
- Trump’s policies increase the cost of building homes, exacerbating the ongoing housing crisis.
- According to an analysis done by NBC, the total cost of building a mid-range single-family home could rise by more than $4,000 due to Trump’s tariff policies.
- Electricity prices are rising more than twice the pace of inflation, up 10% since Trump took office.
- Families already struggling with inflation are now facing record-high power bills. Trump’s tariffs, cuts to affordable renewable energy like wind and solar, and promotion of energy-hungry AI data centers have caused the price of electricity to skyrocket.
- Farmers and their families face a perfect financial storm of rising inflation and the loss of key trade partners.
- America’s largest buyer of soybeans is opting for cheaper prices in Brazil to lower costs and put pressure on the Trump administration’s trade war, creating a full-blown crisis for rural communities that Trump promised to protect.
