Trump’s MAGA agenda brought a job creation juggernaut to its knees last year. The Trump economy added 403,000 fewer jobs in 2025 than initially reported.
This didn’t come as a surprise; many saw the writing on the wall. The conservative think-tank American Enterprise Institute predicted that Trump’s agenda would reduce the labor supply and drastically stunt job growth gains.
From mass firings to eliminating funding for infrastructure programs to a costly mass deportation push, Trump’s policies have contributed to rising unemployment and slow job growth for many sectors of the economy.
Here’s how the Trump agenda has undermined job creation and given Americans fewer options to make a living and get ahead:
- Trump stalled or terminated nearly $8 billion in critical infrastructure projects and killed good-paying construction jobs.
- Trump’s costly mass deportation agenda shrank the labor force and contributed to stagnant job growth.
- The manufacturing industry contracted every month after Trump issued massive tariffs on our trade partners.
- Trump ended a working group focused on expanding “earn while you learn” registered apprenticeships.
- Trump repealed electric-vehicle tax credits, making vehicles more expensive for buyers and forcing layoffs.
- Trump’s attack on the clean energy industry cost 10,000 jobs in 2025.
- U.S. job creation in 2025 was the weakest since the COVID era.
- Instead of creating the conditions for job growth, Trump forced more than 317,000 federal workers out of their roles at the same time his tariff and deportation policies were disrupting the labor market.
“The workers who believed they were getting an economy that worked for them got something very different under Trump. If you’re fortunate enough to be employed, you’re likely clinging on to that job for dear life because it’s not easy to get another job of any caliber in Trump’s economy, and that’s a best-case scenario for many Americans who haven’t been laid off in the last year,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Real people are paying the price for his reckless policies upending the economy. Behind every lost job is a person who needs to make their rent, fill their fridge, put clothes on their kids’ backs, or pay for prescriptions. People need more opportunities, but Trump’s agenda is taking them away.”
