Less than 18 hours after firing the FBI Director who was investigating his ties to Russia, this morning, Donald Trump is cozying up to Vladimir Putin’s top diplomat in the Oval Office, a move that rightfully has the public wondering whose interests Trump is prioritizing.
“The White House is trying to cover up the imploding Russia scandal and the timing of this meeting with Russia’s Foreign Minister looks like Trump himself may be compromised. How else does he explain his actions from the last 18 hours?” asked Jessica Mackler, President of American Bridge. “Russians are literally laughing at us as Putin pulls the strings and plays Trump like a puppet, and Trump continues to behave like he’s putting Russia’s interests ahead of our own.”
“It’s long past time for Republicans to join calls for an independent commission investigating this scandal, nothing short of that will do. If Republicans can’t put aside their reflexive partisanship now, the country is going to hold them accountable for being complicit in this scandal.”
