Rick Scott Can't Hide Years of Neglecting Florida's Opioid Crisis

Sep 26, 2017

What does a scandal-plagued politician do when he’s up to his neck in bad media coverage? Try to change the topic.

That’s why Rick Scott is holding press conferences today about Florida opioid crisis, which he has neglected for years. Instead of coming clean about why he deleted voicemails from a south Florida nursing home where 11 seniors died in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma — potentially violating Florida’s Sunshine laws — Rick Scott is trying to distract Floridians.
American Bridge spokesperson Joshua Karp made the following statement:

“Floridians are still recovering from Hurricane Irma and are still appalled by Rick Scott’s handling of the deaths of 11 seniors in a south Florida nursing home — but Scott is moving on to his latest self-serving media blitz. The truth is that for years Rick Scott has ignored Florida’s opioid crisis, neglecting funding for treatment and prevention, but giving taxpayer giveaways to the wealthiest Floridians and big corporations. Floridians will see right through Rick Scott’s latest partisan ploy.”
