Conservative Commentators To Rubio: Drop Out

Mar 09, 2016

#Marcomentum has folded into disappointment and acceptance of his failure to gain traction among GOP voters. Rubio finished fourth in two of yesterday’s primaries and added zero delegates to his total. While Rubio and his campaign are batting down rumors that advisors are telling him to call it quits, the numbers don’t lie: It’s over, and now conservative pundits are calling on him to drop out.

Marco Rubio’s candidacy, eulogized:

Washington Post: Jennifer Rubin: Sorry, Marco Rubio, it’s time to fold

Here is what someone should be telling Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.):
With each round of voting, with the exception of Puerto Rico, your vote total has gone down. Your percentage is now down to single digits in some states, ones in which you were previously competitive (e.g. Michigan). You are trailing by double digits in your home state — before the poor showing on Tuesday. Florida insiders friendly to your cause do not think you can win.
Stay in and you risk losing your state, ending your career on a terrible note and getting blamed for taking just enough away in states such as Ohio and Illinois to give Donald Trump, a man you have all but said is unfit for office, the nomination.

The Boston Globe: Eric Fehrnstrom: Rubio should quit the race

On Monday, CNN aired a report that advisers in Senator Marco Rubio’s campaign were discussing whether to withdraw from the presidential race. Sitting in a meeting, Rubio’s spokesman, Alex Conant, leapt out of his chair and sped across town to the cable station’s Washington studio to denounce the story as “nonsense” and “100 percent false.”
But if those conversations weren’t taking place before today, they need to happen now.

Rubio believes his fateful moment arrives March 15. That’s when Florida’s 99 delegates are up for grabs in the state’s winner-take-all primary. But even if he wins his home state, Rubio has no path to the nomination. Most Republicans view Senator Ted Cruz as the strongest Trump challenger, and think he fares better in a head-to-head contest.

In politics, you need three ingredients to be successful — money, organization, and message. Lacking all three, Rubio should exit now to avoid an embarrassment in Florida that could damage whatever he hopes to salvage of his political career.

The Resurgent: Erick Erickson: Marco Rubio Needs to Get Out Now Because #NeverTrump is Becoming #TrumpGuaranteed

In 20 races, Rubio has won 2 and one of those, Puerto Rico, gets no say in the electoral college. Trump has 384 delegates, Cruz has 300, and Rubio has 151. Kasich, for what it is worth, only has 37.

Marco Rubio is a great guy, I pray for him regularly and care for him sincerely, almost all of my family and most of my friends have voted for him in the primaries and caucuses held so far, and it is time for Marco Rubio to withdraw from the race.

Washington Post: Joe Scarborough: Marco Rubio gets massacred

“Super Saturday” ended up being a Saturday night massacre for Marco Rubio. The establishment’s landslide choice to win the GOP nomination no longer seems capable of even finishing in second place. If the Florida senator wants to salvage his political career, it is time that his quixotic quest for the White House comes to an end.
