Donald Trump said he’d run the country like a company, and after three months in office, it’s clear he meant like one of his many bankrupt businesses. New data released today showed the U.S. economy shrank 0.3% in the first quarter of this year, thanks to Trump’s chaotic economic policies.
Voters trusted Trump and Republicans to bring down the cost of living and preserve their hopes for the future. Trump’s unnecessary trade war, ever-changing tariff policies, and mass firings of federal employees erased any hope for American families struggling to get by. They’ve driven the system into the ground, and with it, jobs, wages, opportunities, and the goodwill of the American people.
For months, the Trump team has lied to the American people about the Trump economy, misinterpreting economic data to erroneously forecast high growth. In reality, Trump’s tax hike, the largest since 1982, is forcing businesses to make tough decisions and is raising prices for Americans who are having babies, getting married, starting a business, and reaching their golden years.
Donald Trump promised economic greatness and to improve life for American families, but instead, he’s left them behind. Under his failed leadership, businesses are frozen in fear, families are tightening their belts, and the economy is shrinking.
“Trump tried to be a bully and pick a trade fight with the entire globe, but now the bully is losing the fight. The American economy is taking gut punches while Trump blames the previous administration and refuses to admit his policies are hurting the mom-and-pop businesses on Main Street,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Trump couldn’t grow the economy if it came with a cheat sheet because the truth is he doesn’t care about making life better for Americans. From day one, he’s been busy chasing revenge, gutting the social safety net, and eyeing new tax cuts for his rich friends.”
