“General Mattis might have the toughest job in Donald Trump’s administration: Standing up to Trump when he wants to launch a reckless war because a foreign leader insulted him or refusing orders when Trump decides to torture people.
“Now that reports indicate Putin and the Kremlin have compromising information they can use to blackmail Trump, Mattis’ job will be even more difficult. He will have to defend our national security in a time when foreign adversaries are going to blackmail and bribe Trump to do their bidding at the expense of American interests. For all our sakes, General Mattis better be up to the task.”
