American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden released the following statement after Trump’s nominee to lead the FBI reaffirmed at his confirmation hearing today that Russian hackers attempted to rig the 2016 election in Trump’s favor:
“It’s absolutely absurd that a President under a pending FBI investigation is allowed to hand pick a nominee to fill this vacancy – a vacancy that was only created because he fired the former Director in an attempt to obstruct justice. Equally absurd is the fact that Trump continues to deny the truth about Russian government hackers’ attempts to rig the election in his favor. This is despite consensus from the intelligence community, an affirmation from Wray this morning, and Trump’s own son’s transgressions which Trump Jr. confessed to yesterday.
“Republicans might be fine tolerating Trump’s unhinged lies and conspiracy theories for the moment, but soon enough, the sheer volume of evidence pointing to criminal misconduct is going to catch up with the Republican Party as a whole. This administration is not above the law and they’re going to find that out the hard way.”
