Susan Collins once again voted to confirm MAGA judicial nominees, siding with Trump over Maine values. Despite Collins’ tired claims of putting Mainers first, she voted to confirm Rebecca Taibleson to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and Jordan Emery Pratt to be District Judge for the Middle District of Florida.
Even as marriage equality faces renewed threats, Taibleson refused to say that Obergefell is settled law. Yet she had no hesitation in declaring the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe, as settled law. Meanwhile, Pratt described abortion as a “barbaric practice” in an amicus brief supporting Florida’s 15-week abortion ban and struck down a Florida law that allowed minors to seek judicial waivers for abortion access without parental consent.
By backing Taibleson and Pratt, Collins sided with nominees who would undermine both marriage equality and reproductive freedom – two principles Mainers overwhelmingly support.
“After nearly thirty years in Washington, Susan Collins continues to prove she’s a reliable vote for the MAGA agenda,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado. “Maine deserves a senator who will stand up for their rights, not one who rubberstamps Trump’s judicial nominees who threaten them.”
