Roe v. Wade Anniversary Shows Arizona’s GOP Field Is Too Extreme to Lead

Jan 22, 2026

On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, as Arizonans reflect on the loss of a fundamental constitutional right, one thing is clear: Arizona’s Republican field for governor is dominated by candidates whose records and rhetoric put ideology over women, families, and medical care.

From Andy Biggs to David Schweikert to Karrin Taylor Robson, these politicians have embraced extreme anti-abortion positions that would strip Arizonans of reproductive freedom and put government control over deeply personal medical decisions.

Taken together, their records send a clear message: none of these candidates can be trusted to lead Arizona as governor.

Rather than respect personal medical decisions or trust doctors and families, all three have promoted an agenda rooted in extremism, misinformation, and punishment — an approach that would have real consequences for Arizona women and families.

Andy Biggs has:

  • Called abortion the “slaughter” of the “unborn,” boasting about his A+ rating from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and vowing to block any use of taxpayer dollars for abortion care.
  • Claimed Democrats have a “craven desire to kill the unborn,” using violent and false rhetoric to attack abortion rights supporters.
  • Falsely accused Democrats of voting to allow babies born alive during abortions to be murdered, repeating discredited talking points to inflame fear and outrage.
  • Said he cannot support anyone who isn’t “pro-life,” declaring that abortion should be a litmus test for holding public office and calling for the country to “recalibrate” after Roe.

David Schweikert has:

  • Attacked women who get abortions as “selfish,” claiming they “hate the country,” “hate their neighbors,” and “hate that baby”.
  • Branded Democrats a “death cult,” claiming support for reproductive rights is destroying the family structure and threatening the foundation of society.
  • Called Democrats and American society “sick” for supporting reproductive freedom, while falsely suggesting Democrats would allow babies to die if they were still in the womb.

Karrin Taylor Robson has:

  • Supported Arizona’s 2022 abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, arguing such exceptions were unnecessary.
  • Minimized pregnancies resulting from rape, falsely claiming they are “extremely rare” and occur in “less than 2 percent” of cases.
  • Said “life begins at conception,” endorsing a position that supports sweeping abortion bans with no meaningful exceptions.
  • Backed Texas’ six-week abortion ban, praising it as protection against what she called “the horrors of abortion.”
  • Celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade, saying she was “thrilled” by the decision.

“Andy Biggs, David Schweikert, and Karrin Taylor Robson have all shown — through their words and records — that they would let politicians make deeply personal medical decisions instead of trusting women, families, and doctors said Tiffiany Vaughn, spokesperson at American Bridge 21st Century. That’s not leadership Arizonans can trust with their lives or their health.”

Arizona deserves leaders who respect women, families, and medical professionals — not politicians who insert themselves into private health care decisions.
