The New Hampshire GOP ran out of ideas on who to run for Senate and now they’re reaching back into the political graveyard to revive John E. Sununu – the face of privatizing Social Security and one of the most extreme, out-of-touch politicians Granite Staters have ever rejected.
After months of hyping failed carpetbagger Scott Brown, Republicans are tossing him aside and trying to reboot a name voters sent packing more than a decade ago. If that sounds desperate, that’s because it is.
John E. Sununu spent his entire Senate career trying to gut Social Security, jack up health care costs, and let Wall Street raid retirement savings. Then he cashed in himself – right after the 2008 financial crisis.
“New Hampshire doesn’t need another entitled Sununu trying to fail upward,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado. “John E. Sununu was the poster boy for trying to gut Social Security. He supported repealing the Affordable Care Act, praised Paul Ryan’s plan to end Medicare, and opposed abortion rights at every turn. Then he got rich working for the same industries he was supposed to rein in.”
If John E. Sununu’s campaign is anything like his Senate record, Granite Staters can expect skyrocketing costs, shredded health care, and less freedom:
The Face of Social Security Privatization
- Led the charge to privatize Social Security with Paul Ryan.
- Pitched risky private accounts as “reform.”
- Supported raising the retirement age.
Cutting Health Care – Driving Up Costs
- Called the Affordable Care Act “a $2 trillion fiasco” and called for repealing it.
- Fought to strip coverage from 70,000+ Granite Staters.
- Praised the Ryan Plan to end Medicare, calling it “bold” and “credible.”
- Supports the Big Ugly Bill, which threatens the health care of 29,000 Granite Staters.
Attacks on Abortion Rights
- Opposed Roe v. Wade and said states should be allowed to ban abortion.
- Backed bills letting hospitals deny abortion care – and voted for forced parental consent for minors.
- Claimed to be “pro-life” with only narrow exceptions.
Gun Extremist with NRA Seal of Approval
- Voted against extending the assault weapons ban.
- Promised to overturn gun safety laws and was praised for a “pro-gun voting record.”
Owned by Special Interests
- Took over $750,000 from telecom firms and energy lobbyists while pushing their agenda in op-eds without disclosing his profit connections.
Cashed In After the Crash
- After losing in 2008, Sununu immediately joined a firm that received $3 billion in bailout funds while he served on a bailout oversight panel.
- Sununu cashed in on his congressional career, instantly joining corporate boards while raking in the dough.
