Just one day after announcing his endorsement of Donald Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan is acting surprised by Trump’s attack on Judge Gonzalo Curiel, saying “the comment about the judge the other day just was out of left field.“
Ryan can pretend he didn’t see this coming, but this isn’t the first time Trump has attacked Hispanics and Latinos — this isn’t even the first time he’s attacked Judge Curiel for his “Mexican heritage.”
In February, Trump hit the judge at a rally saying, “there’s a hostility toward me by the judge, tremendous hostility, beyond belief––I believe he happens to be Spanish, which is fine, he’s Hispanic.”

Ryan isn’t fooling anyone — Trump’s xenophobic and discriminatory comments are nothing new.
