It’s going to cost more to celebrate America in Trump’s economy this year, thanks to his tariff policy taxing nearly every aspect of life for American families. This long weekend, get ready to pay up for Trump’s tax on patriotism.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says beef prices are on the rise, with ground beef, steak, and round roast now costing 57 to 75 cents per pound more than last year. Overall, beef prices are expected to jump 6.6% this year.
Additionally, a new congressional report found the typical grocery trip for a cookout increased by a 12.7% annualized rate since Trump imposed massive tariffs on our trading partners and started an unnecessary trade war.
Since Trump’s tariffs were announced in April, beer prices have jumped. A six-pack of Miller Lite and Coors Light is up more than 13%. Imported options like Peroni are up 10.5%, and Modelo bottles rose 9.5%. Last month, Trump hiked tariffs on imported aluminum to 50%, driving up costs one can at a time.
Outdoor and holiday essentials haven’t been spared either. Since April, Coleman foldable campaign chair prices spiked 47.7%, and a 25-piece griddle accessories kit increased 17.7%.
Banana Boat sunscreen rose 8.1%, Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil rose 6.9%, a Weber propane grill increased 5% and a multi-pack of disposable plates and utensils rose 3.3%.
Firework industry experts warn that next summer could bring even higher costs, shortages, or canceled shows altogether if Trump’s tariffs stay in place.
And for families trying to celebrate on a budget at National Parks? Good luck and stay safe. At many federal beaches, swimming comes without lifeguards because Trump fired nearly 1,000 workers from the National Park Service and froze hiring nationwide.
“Trump is making it more expensive to grill a burger, crack a beer, or watch fireworks, while Republicans push a spending bill that guts over a trillion dollars from health care, slashes food assistance, and hits working families where it hurts the most over the next decade,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “It’s a one-two punch straight to the gut of the working Americans that Trump and Republicans promised to fight for. While the GOP waves the flag this weekend, remember they’re picking your pocket at the same time with dangerous and harmful economic policies.”
